The Fondation Christoph Merian in Basel, Switzerland, established in the 1980s an international artist exchange program. It built studio-apartments in the St. Alban-Tal district of Basel and initiated collaboration with foreign institutions. Since then, the program has developed steadily. To its original studios, the foundation has added facilities in the immediate vicinity in Arlesheim and Riehen.

Architectural research, arts and crafts, the media arts, the multidisciplinary arts, the visual arts


Target applicants
Artists with at least two years of artistic practice.


Location
Basel, located near France and Germany, has a remarkable history and cultural diversity. Its museums house prestigious collections and its contemporary art galleries are at the forefront of international artistic trends. Artists who live in Basel enjoy a period of residence of rare intensity.

Québec artists may live in any of the studios offered by the Fondation Christoph Merian, which chooses the studio in consultation with grant recipients and according to their specific needs. The apartments are fully furnished but do not have any specialized equipment.

In exchange, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) hosts each year two artists from Basel for six-month stays at the Darling Foundry - Visual Arts Centre in Montréal.


Length of stay and amount of the grant
Six months, from January to June 2013 or from July to December 2013.

The grant is in the amount of $15 000
