Artist's residence (white building) on Scott Street, within walking
distance of the CCA
In
2005, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) signed a three-year
agreement with the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, Scotland. By
initiating this collaboration with one of the United Kingdom’s most
prestigious artistic centres, the CALQ wishes to enable Québec
artists to take advantage of the numerous benefits offered by the CCA in
Glasgow and contribute to revitalizing longstanding fruitful relations
between Québec and Scotland.
Artistic fields
Contemporary
music (instrumental, electroacoustic and electronic music), sound
installation, audio art, the media arts, the multidisciplinary arts and
the visual
arts sectors in which the candidates
rely primarily on the new technologies.
Target applicants
Artists
with at least two years of artistic practice.
Location
Glasgow,
with a population of over 600 000, is the arts capital of Scotland.
It is the home of traditional theatre and the latest multimedia
creations, Victorian buildings and ultramodern architecture. Glasgow is
also the site of numerous international cultural events.
Established
in 1992, the Centre for Contemporary Arts is a major centre devoted to
international contemporary art. It focuses on all forms of contemporary
art, including the visual arts, the media arts, music, audio art and
performance and is unique in Scotland, where it plays the role of a
truly national institution.
The CCA is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Glasgow and has occupied since 2002 a renovated three-storey building that houses, in particular, exhibition space, performance space, creative lab residency space, a cinema, a flat, a café and a bar.
The artist's flat at the CCA is designed as a studio flat for a single occupant, with a small kitchen area within the living space, and a bathroom facility with a shower. It has a telephone, a television and a hi-fi, all for the use of the artist. The CCA can also provide desk-space and Internet access for the resident artist to utilise during the course of their time here.
The CCA has a lot of technical equipment within the infrastructure of the building but it is not set up as a permanent set of studios. The CCA can however facilitate most things. Artists may contact Kenny McLeod, CCA's Production Manager, with specific technical enquiries.
