The Couvent des Récollets, in Paris
To facilitate the comparison of different artistic viewpoints, foster the establishment of lasting ties between French and Québec artists and contribute in practical terms to the development of the artists’ artistic approaches, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) concluded in 2011 a reciprocity agreement with the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication (European and international affairs branch) in France.
This agreement calls for the continuation of an annual exchange program of professional artists launched several years ago by the Darling Foundry under which the selected applicants engage in a creative residency and period of artistic renewal in Québec and France.
The program facilitates a dynamic, lively exchange between two vital centres in the French-speaking world, Montréal and Paris.
Through this agreement, CALQ wishes to offer Québec artists a new career development tool and initiate fruitful collaboration with its French partner.

This exchange program enables two Québec artists to engage each year in a three-month residency in Paris. In exchange, two French artists stay for three months in Montréal.
CALQ awards a $7 500 grant under the program. The grant is intended to cover the artist’s personal insurance, travel costs, living expenses and the cost of purchasing, transporting and insuring the material required to carry out his project.
The Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication (European and international affairs branch) in France assumes the cost of the studio-apartment of the Québec artists in France and expenses stemming from promotion of the artists, networking and the possible presentation of their works.
In Paris, the Québec artists live in the Couvent des Récollets, a magnificent renovated former convent in the heart of the city. The international reception and exchange centre is reserved exclusively for foreign artists and the artists in residence there are immersed in an outstanding professional context suited to meetings and exchanges.
In Montréal, the Darling Foundry hosts the French artists.
