The Aberystwyth Arts Centre
With a view to participating in the initiative launched by the Québec government to bolster and develop enduring cultural ties with the United Kingdom, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec
(CALQ) concluded a three-year agreement with Wales Art International, an organization that collaborates with the key government agencies involved in the development of the visual arts in Wales, such as the Arts Council of Wales and the British Council.
Under this agreement, Québec artists working in the fields of the visual arts and the media arts can engage in a three-month residency in Wales and take advantage of numerous possibilities to establish professional contacts linked to the development of their careers.
Artistic fields
The visual arts (painting, sculpture, print-making, photography, drawing, illustration, multiple techniques, installations and works of a similar nature) and
the media
arts
Target applicants
Artists and writers with at least two years of artistic practice.
Location
In Wales, the residency takes place under the auspices of the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. This multidisciplinary centre, which opened in 1970, houses cinemas, galleries and concert halls. Aberystwyth Arts Centre is an award winning arts facility, the largest and busiest arts centre in Wales with a wide-ranging programme of events and activities across all art forms.
In 2000, the Arts Centre completed a major redevelopment project and now has facilities unrivalled throughout much of the UK; leading it to be recognised as a national centre for arts development and described as a ‘national flagship' for the arts. It is a department of Aberystwyth University.
The Centre can offer resident artists many facilities as appropriate, including digilab facilities, darkroom, ceramic facilities and kiln room.
