Lisbon
The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) wishes to participate actively in cultural relations between Québec and Portugal and foster the international career development of writers by encouraging foreign exchange programs. In 2011, it concluded a reciprocity agreement with the Clube Português de Artes e Ideias de Lisbonne. This agreement calls for the creation of an annual exchange program of professional writers under which the candidates selected engage in a period of artistic creation and renewal in Québec and Portugal.
Portuguese literature is more widely read than ever and shares a number of common traits with Québec literature. Lisbon is a literary city, just as Montréal has become in recent decades. The Portuguese capital’s strong identity centres as much on its literature as on its engaging architecture and gastronomy.
Through this agreement, CALQ wishes to offer Québec writers a new career development tool and develop fruitful collaboration with Portugal.
