It provides complete information on general eligibility requirements, the presentation of the application, the evaluation of grant applications, the review process, conditions governing the awarding of a grant and specific conditions to abide by in the case of an applicant with ties to an affiliated organization.
For additional information on the terms that the CALQ uses, please refer to the
Glossary.
Objectives of support for dance production projects
By granting specific financial assistance to dance creation and production organizations and to dance performers and artists' groups, the CALQ facilitates the realization of a production project or the revival of a dance performance. In so doing, it pursues the following objectives:
- support artistic excellence in dance, the diversity of practices and creative
renewal;
- encourage the production and dissemination of Québec choreographic
works;
- support revivals and the performance of works in the repertory;
- foster the integration of young Québec artists into a professional work
environment;
- facilitate access throughout Québec to dance performances and increase attendance at such performances;
- develop and heighten audience awareness;
- contribute to the recognition of professional artists.
Eligibility
This support is intended for professional dance creation and production organizations and dance performers and artists' groups that create, produce and promote specific performances.
The organization is recognized as a producer when it assumes the artistic management and the cost of designing, rehearsing and presenting the performances.
To be eligible, the applicant must satisfy the general eligibility requirements as defined in the section entitled
General information on support for
projects.
Moreover,
- the organization must hire professional dancers and professional designers in its discipline;
- the artist must work in the dance sector as a dancer, choreographer or performer;
- the artists' group must ensure that the majority of its member are working in the dance sector as dancers, choreographers or performers.
Moreover, an artists' group made up mainly of the same people who are working in another artists' group or an organization submitting an application may not submit more than one application per year.
Ineligibility
This support is not available to:
- an organization that receives an operating grant;
- an organization, an artist or an artists' group that does not collect any ticketing revenue or guaranteed fee sales in respect of the project
submitted.
Maximum amount of the grant
The maximum amount of the CALQ's grant to support projects may not exceed 75% of the cost of the project. Project grants are specific in nature and are not renewable.
If the actual cost of carrying out the project leads to the exceeding of the scale respecting the maximum amount of the grant, the CALQ may demand the repayment of the surplus amount.
The CALQ may, under exceptional circumstances, support for a period of two years projects that display artistic promise.
Evaluation criteria
1. Artistic quality of the project: 60%
- the quality and artistic interest of the project;
- the quality of the applicant's previous achievements;
- the quality of the artistic work of the artist or the members of the artists' group associated with the project.
2. Impact of the project: 20%
- the project's contribution to the discipline's development;
- the artistic contribution to the territory served or to the
community;
- the extent of the dissemination planned (number of performances and spectators in light of the nature of the
project).
3. Management of the project: 20%
- the project's feasibility, the realism of budget estimates, and financial
equilibrium;
- the remuneration of artists, performers and cultural workers.
Exceptionally, when the type of project warrants doing so and the organization or the artists' group makes such a request by checking the appropriate box on the form, the CALQ will attach greater importance to the criteria concerning the project's impact. In this instance, the project's artistic quality will account for 50% of the weighting, the project's impact for 30% and the project's management for 20%.
