Call for candidacies: residency for Deaf artists and artists living with a disability at Théâtre du Rideau Vert
The CALQ (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec), in partnership with the Théâtre du Rideau Vert, announces a call for candidacies for a new research and creation residency for Deaf artists and artists living with a disability.
Unique among the CALQ’s network of residencies, this residency is the result of a two-year agreement This link will open in a new window to foster inclusion and accessibility in the Québec theatre scene.
This five-month residency, which begins in winter 2027, will allow a Québec artist who is Deaf or living with a disability (including those who are hard of hearing, blind or partially sighted, artists with diverse abilities and neurodivergent artists) or collectives that include people who experience these realities, to spend time at Théâtre du Rideau Vert for a research and creation residency.
The CALQ will award the selected artist or collective a grant of $30,000. The Théâtre du Rideau Vert will provide a framework for research, experimentation and creation, along with professional support throughout the residency. Additional financial aidThis link will open in a new window may also be granted upon request to help cover some of the additional costs related to the artist’s disability (technical support, assistance, or necessary accommodations).
The program is for artists working in theatre (acting, directing, writing or multidisciplinary creation This link will open in a new window), as well as collectives that include these artists.
Interested artists and collectives have until May 27, 2026 to submit their application.

Information session
An in-person information session will be held on March 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Théâtre du Rideau Vert. It will cover details of the residency and help candidates prepare their application. Advance registration is required.
