CALQ to provide feedback to help artists prepare grant applications

Institutionnel Programmes

The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) is introducing a new system to provide artists with feedback following the evaluation of their grant application by a jury of their peers.

The feedback system meets artists’ expressed need for information on how to improve their future grant applications and is in line with the CALQ’s commitment to supporting artists. Recently, the CALQ also created the CALQ grant primer This link will open in a new window, a series of videos that provide advice on writing grant applications.

The feedback system is based on consultations with professional artists who have served on various juries. That process helped the CALQ develop tools for jury members to indicate how a grant application could be improved.

“We know artists work hard on their grant applications and it is important for them to receive feedback. The new system we have set up will give them constructive, useful comments on various aspects of their project from the peers who evaluated their applications.” – Anne-Marie Jean, CEO, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec

Feedback system will be phased in

The new system is being implemented first for the Creation section of the general grant program and will subsequently be expanded to the other sections. Artists will be informed at the appropriate time. Only artists who submitted an application after August 27, 2022 will receive feedback. While the feedback is intended to help artists improve their chances of success on future grant applications, there is no guarantee of success, as the CALQ’s ability to award grants is limited by its budget allocation.

The evaluation grid used by the juries is now available This link will open in a new window on our website.
