On May 29, 2023, René Richard Cyr received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to him by the Council.

Driven by a desire to never be alone, René Richard Cyr surrounds himself with muses and assumes multiple identities: actor, director, producer, generator of ideas, host, professor, translator, songwriter, and artistic director at the Théâtre PÀP Petit à Petit and the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.

A gregarious, versatile humanist, he invests his intelligence, talent, and sensitivity in a number of spheres of Québec culture. The recipient of many awards, his career, which features popular shows and demanding works, includes staging 125 productions in theatre, opera, and variety shows.

René Richard Cyr likes to give a platform for voices, the voices of unpretentious people from the Faubourg à M’lasse area where he grew up. The voices of the classics through his original reinterpretations.

The voices of screenwriters whose words he declaims, such as Michel Tremblay, Annick Lefebvre, Michel Marc Bouchard, and Geneviève Billette. André Ducharme called the director and intermediary a great ferryman of texts. This spirit of sharing continues to drive his will to overcome solitude, one creation at a time.
