A new CALQ residency for mural artists in Chile
Beginning this winter, Québec mural artists will have access to a new research and creation residency in Santiago, Chile.
The result of an agreement between the CALQ (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec) and Lira Arte Público This link will open in a new window, this residency will enable a mural artist to immerse themselves in the cultural vitality of Santiago, a vibrant city where mural art and graffiti are a focal point of the public space.
For eight weeks, the artist in residence will have the opportunity to explore their practice in a new context, form ties with the local arts community and develop an artistic project rooted in Chile’s urban and cultural landscape. In exchange, an artist from Chile will take part in a residency for an equivalent period at MU, in Montréal.
The artist in residence in Chile will take part in public activities – workshops, meetings or conferences – to share their process and introduce the public to the challenges and techniques of mural art.
The residency includes a $9,000 grant from the CALQ, structured support from the local partner, Lira Arte Público, accommodations and a workspace for the duration of the residency.
Visual artists who want to take part have until June 27 to apply for a residency between November 2025 and March 2026.

About the residency site
Santiago is one of the major centres for urban art in Latin America. Neighbourhoods such as Bellavista, Yungay and San Miguel are open-air galleries where engaged artists express themselves, at the crossroads of art, social protest and local identity.
Lira Arte Público is an artists’ collective that, since its formation, has created over 40 arts interventions totalling around 15,000 m² in urban and community settings. The collective’s projects are designed to reinforce ties between territories and their communities, fostering participative efforts based on history, memory and local identity.
