The CALQ inaugurates a puppet arts residency in Norway

International

A 24th country has been added to the CALQ’s international offer of studios and studio apartments: Norway!

Earlier this winter, the CALQ entered into a partnership agreement with a Norwegian organization, the Fossekleiva kultursenter This link will open in a new window, to implement a puppet arts residency for Québec artists.

Beginning in September, puppet artists can spend two months accompanied by an artistic partner of their choice at Fossekleiva kultursenter, a former textile plant built in 1889 and converted into a cultural centre in the village of Berger, one of the best-preserved industrial communities in Norway.

Working together in Berger, the two artists can develop new artistic relationships and explore avenues for creative collaborations in puppet theatre, in addition to attending the next edition of the Figur i Fossekleiva (FiF) puppet arts and visual theatre festival.

As part of this agreement, two Norwegian artists will be hosted in Québec with the participation of the Fabrique de théâtre insolite, a site for creation and presentation that is part of the Les Sages Fous company in Trois-Rivières.

Puppet artists who want to take part in this residency have until May 9 to apply for a stay between September and October 2024.

The CALQ’s residencies program is for professional artists and writers seeking regeneration and exploration, who want to immerse themselves in other cultures or have access to internationally renowned facilities to conduct research and seek out new avenues for creation.

Since the inauguration of the Studio du Québec in Paris in 1965, this program has made it possible to increase exchanges with many international partners and contribute to the career development of many creators.
