Closing of two ad hoc measures to stimulate artistic activity this summer

The Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (CALQ) advises its audiences that the following measures will no longer be available after August 3, 2020, in order to stay within the allocated budgets:

  • Présentation de spectacles en distanciation physique
  • Exploration and Digital Deployment grants for organizations

After the Government of Québec announced its Cultural Sector Economic Recovery Plan on June 8, the CALQ introduced ad hoc measures to maintain a certain level of dynamism on the arts scene during the summer. Since they were established, these programs have attracted a large number of original, high-quality projects, some of which are already brightening indoor, outdoor and online performance spaces throughout Quebec.

The ending of these measures coincides with the Québec government announcement on July 23, that the maximum size of indoor and outdoor gatherings is being increased from 50 to 250 people, while maintaining the established health rules and guidance, particularly with respect to physical distancing. The new rule, which will allow Quebecers to come together in cultural venues in greater numbers, will also take effect on Monday, August 3.

The component of the Exploration and Digital Deployment programfor artists remains also open.

Two other measures are still open for application

It is also important to remember that on July 8, the CALQ published a Call for Research, Creation and Preproduction Projects in the performing arts and multidisciplinary arts, which is still open. This ad hoc financial support has been established to help maintain artistic productions of high quality when cultural activities return to normal. It will enable organizations to work intensively on their projects and carry out all the steps leading up to the presentation of a show, from research to rehearsals. More details.

The full list of supported projects and artists will be released in the coming weeks.
