Diane Landry - Compagne des arts et des lettres du Québec
On June 9, 2025, Diane Landry received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to her by the CALQ.
Visual artist Diane Landry combines installation, performance, kinetic art, sound and light to explore what fascinates her: reversing destruction through creation. Her creativity can transform the projected shadows of a water bottle into mandalas. Plastic wrap, umbrellas, utensils, bike wheels, washing machines and turntables come together in a poetic, moving, luminous, fascinating corpus. The consistency between the form and the substance of her artistic expression espouses environmental awareness. She creates a universal language that teaches us to look beyond what is right in front of us.
Diane Landry’s artistic practice is based in Québec City, but she breaks out of her regular world by immersing herself in other cultures through creative residencies. During a career that has spanned 40 years and included close to 100 individual exhibitions, she has elicited wonder on the international stage and received many honours, including a prestigious grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in New York. She is very active in the arts world and often says that the Méduse cooperative, with its ten member organizations, is a fabulous extension of her studio.
The Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec is a distinction of the Council which aims to honor people who have made a remarkable contribution, through their commitment and dedication, to the development, promotion or influence of the arts and letters of Quebec.
