Jacques Fournier - Compagnon des arts et des lettres du Québec
On June 9, 2025, Jacques Fournier received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to him by the CALQ.
Jacques Fournier is the founding director of Éditions Roselin, which specializes in the design and production of artists’ books that are innovative in form and substance. His career is part of a long tradition, the practices of which he has modernized. His aesthetic sense and in-depth knowledge of materials have earned him two Grand prix des métiers d’art du Québec and the title of Membre artisan professionnel émérite, awarded by the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec.
For the past 30 years, working with artists from the visual arts, literature and arts and crafts, he has created some 40 works. These artists’ books have drawn admiration for their variety of materials and the meticulous care he brings to making books as objects. The choice of the name Roselin, a migratory bird – in English, a finch – destined the publishing house to exhibit Québec literature and visual arts and crafts around the world. At the intersection of the material and the symbolic, Jacques Fournier’s work is a perpetual search for beauty, transforming reading into a pleasure for the senses.
The Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec is a distinction of the Council which aims to honor people who have made a remarkable contribution, through their commitment and dedication, to the development, promotion or influence of the arts and letters of Quebec.
