Daniel Bélanger - Compagnon des arts et des lettres du Québec
On June 9, 2025, Daniel Bélanger received the insignia of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, a prestigious distinction bestowed to personalities whose exemplary achievements reflect the artistic and literary development of Quebec. Discover the tribute paid to him by the CALQ.
Born in Montréal, singer-songwriter Daniel Bélanger made his presence felt from his very first album, Les insomniaques s’amusent, in 1992. His introspective songs, which blur genres with their innovative arrangements, quickly won over critics and a multi-generational audience.
Through experimentation, this self-taught musician has created a musical universe that includes pop ballads, alternative rock and electro accents. With stand-out songs that combine humour, tenderness and melancholy, Daniel Bélanger keeps selling out venues on every project he undertakes. Constantly reinventing himself, he pops up where least expected, and, alongside his solo career, has ventured into film, literature and theatre. His eclectic work has garnered him thirty-two Félix Awards, earning him a place among the leading lights of francophone song.
Like Sputnik, the inspiration for one of his songs, Daniel Bélanger is an explorer and a travelling companion to the six billion solitudes that he tries to get closer to. He makes us dream better by drying the tears of those who have struggled, rekindling their humanity.
The Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec is a distinction of the Council which aims to honor people who have made a remarkable contribution, through their commitment and dedication, to the development, promotion or influence of the arts and letters of Quebec.
